BACKHILL TUNNEL IMPROVEMENTS
Scheme: Backhill Tunnel – Improvements
Client: Skanska / Oxford County Council
Dates: September 2017 – December 2017
Scope of Works:
The Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership provided funding from the Growing Places Fund to create a sustainable transport link between the strategic employment areas of Milton Park and the major existing and future residential areas of Didcot.
The new facilities utilise the existing Backhill Tunnel – a route that was closed for many years to the general public.
As well as opening up the tunnel the funding also contributed towards improvements on the A4130 including a new pedestrian crossing.
The works included:
-
Building a foot and cycle path from Milton Park to the north side of A4130
-
Lighting and CCTV installation within Backhill Tunnel
-
Improved fencing preventing unwanted access to the existing rail line.
